of the American Begonia Society

Started as the Palomar Branch of the American Begonia Society in Northern San Diego County the current membership encompass members from around San Diego County. On January 9, 2000 the branch was renamed the Mabel Corwin Branch after premier grower, dedicated member and a founder of the branch.

On the 2nd Sunday of the month, we meet in the 100+ year old Olivehein Meeting Hall the members of the Mabel Corwin Branch from North and South San Diego County come into ‘friendly contact’ each month. We share our experiences cultivating the diverse members of the family Begoniaceae. Our business meeting precedes our show and tell table with beauties that members bring to show off or ask questions about, answers follow to solve the problem. A educational and informative program then leads into the raffle table and refreshments, where the calling of our name interrupts the shared fellowship over food and drink.

2011 looks bright with a line up of great speakers coming to share their knowledge with us. They include Michael Kartuz, Michael Ludwig, and Bobbie West. This year brings visits to the gardens and greenhouses of Elf Mouton, Michael Kartuz, Dean Turney. Still in the works are a return visit by Thelma O’Reilly and Mike Flaherty. In October we join with the Margaret Lee Branch for our annual show and sale in Balboa Park for begonia lovers throughout San Diego, California and visitors from around the country and world.

Our meetings are the 2nd Sunday of each month at 1:30 p.m in the Olivehein Meeting Hall or other site, either garden or greenhouse.
